Top Actor Africa got off to a dramatic start.
After months of auditions BET Top Actor Africa is returning for a second season. Aspiring actors from across Africa will compete in the jaw dropping reality series in a race to see who will win the title of Top Actor Africa.
Hosting the series is South African actress and movie star, Zikhona Sodlaka. “After months of gruelling auditions I’m glad to say that season 2 is going to be even better. Unlike season 1, this year’s season 2 will include actors from other parts of Africa,” Sodlaka says.
Top 12 actors from across the continent will make up the cast of this seasons series. South African actor Shamilla Miller from Cape Town, Farrell Drew from Durban and Marilyn Sekgapane, Jesse Suntele, Hendrik Lombard and Sabelo Sibeko and Simhle Belinda Plaatjies from Johannesburg are amongst the 12 finalists in the upcoming reality series. Also in the finalists are 27-year old Kenyan actor Alex Khayo and 23- year old Lorreine Wangui Gakuo and Alexander Eliab Khainga. Finalist representing Nigeria are,Tobechi Nneji, Uriel Oputa and Ifeanyi Dike.
“It’s exciting to see that we have extended our footprint into other parts of Africa. Our selection process with the actors was based on seeing which actor works best in a team and how they relate with crew members and how they grow through each challenge for the week,” Sodlaka adds.
“This year BET Top Actor Africa is being shot in Nigeria and our contestants get the chance to work the best in the industry. This year we have added two of Nigeria’s biggest actors amongst the acting coaches from South Africa and Hollywood,” she says.
Each week Top Actor Africa will challenge the actors through a series of nine gruelling acting genres from Crime Drama, Soapies, Comedy, Improv, theatre and Music to showcase their acting capabilities in hope to stay in the competition and follow the steps of Season 1’s winner drama student Altovise Lawrence from Johannesburg who has since been on the channel, BET as an entertainment news host of BET Buzz and is currently in the US shooting a Hollywood feature film called, “The Other Side”.
This year contestants will be competing for cash prize of $10, 000 (R 152 300) and a one year contract with an international agents and access to Hollywood auditions and the title of ‘Top Africa Actor’.
BET Top Actor Africa’s drama will kick off on BET (DStv Channel 129) on March 1 at 19:30.
