The holiday fever is slowly fading off as we wake up to the few kilo’s gained over the festive season. To no dismay, BizGude 101 interviews personal trainer Sipho Twala on how to make a business of helping people lose the weight gained over the festive season.

The institution gives you the option of completing a certificate or diploma in fitness. With an average of R40 000 on the course, you’re well on your way to becoming a fitness trainer.

“Often people in the townships may not afford gym subscription and being marketed through your virgin active or any other fitness institutions, only leaving them with the option of starting their very own boot camps with the assistance of sponsorship from Energade, and Nike.”

Twala shares it is vital as a trainer to know the human body,  know about nutrition and different body types as one of the most important requirements into becoming a fitness trainer.

Sipho Twala shares a few tips on how you can start your own business as a fitness trainer:

  1. Market yourself – make people realise that you are a personal trainer. Wear the clothes fitness trainers wear.

  2. Figure out if you want to privatize your business (bootcamps) or use virgin active as your agency, pay their subscriptions, in return book clients.

  3. Know what you want to get out of becoming a personal trainer and your business.

  4. Have a specialty. Are you a yoga instructor, weight lifting instructor.

  5. Master your training
